To Eat or Not To Eat

Josiah was introduced to solid foods in the form of rice cereal (well, mostly breastmilk) on St. Patrick's Day, but still isn't really all that interested in actually eating any of it. At first, his tongue thrust reflex was still pretty strong and very little made it into his mouth. Gradually, he has swallowed a few spoonfuls and yet seems a little annoyed with the whole process. I can't decide if he just isn't hungry, doesn't like rice, isn't ready to eat yet, or would just rather play or do something else. For now, I've given up and I'll try again in a few weeks...

6 Months

It's hard to believe that little baby Joe is already 1/2 way through his first year. He is now weighing in at 15 pounds, 6 oz. and is 27 inches long. That puts him at 25th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height - tall and skinny. He is doing exceptionally well at sitting these days and loves to play with any toy he can reach. He especially enjoys shaking objects, but occasionally hits himself in the face. Jumping and flying through the air are also favorite pastimes. Josiah fully appreciates individual attention and will flash his bright smile and maybe sing a song or two to anyone who engages him. He is sleeping pretty well these days, only waking once during the night and taking a pretty good nap each afternoon (with some cat naps in the morning and evening). His hands are very busy and he has now earned the title of "grabby hands". He prefers grabbing glasses of water and plates of food to just about everything else. Maybe one day soon, he'll get to eat some real food...

Sitting Up

Our big boy is getting bigger and stronger all the time. He is now able to sit up without any support. But, he should have help because he falls over pretty quickly and especially if his sister is nearby. She loves to watch Maman catch him before he goes Boom!

Most of the time, he still leans forward supported on his arms, like a frog. There are a few times, where he has sat on a blanket and actually played with some toys or books. He really enjoys this new perspective, but isn't too disappointed when he falls-particularly if it means playing with Maman.
