Sibling Arguments

Eila and Josiah were sitting in the car, talking about who knows what, but at some point it turned into an argument (as their conversations often do).
Josiah: Well, I'm going to flush you down the toilet!
Eila: I'm going to climb back up and flush you down the toilet and close the lid and sit on it so you can't get back out.
J: I'm going to punch it and bust holes in it and get out. Then, I'm gonna flush you down the toilet and take all the water and your gonna float away.
E: Well, I'm going to kick and get out and flush you and cover it all with duct tape and you'll never get out.
J: I'll get a gun and shoot it all to pieces and the toilet will explode and you'll be covered with poopy water.

Train Store

We had a great vacation recently and among the places we visited was NYC, Pennsylvania Amish Country, and various places in Ohio. If you ask Josiah his favorite part of our trip, he might think for a moment and then he'll answer "The train store." He loved riding the subway! It beat out the dino museum, swimming, parks, even milking a cow and feeding calves and goats, all of which he LOVED. He did not, however, enjoy riding in the car and is still revolting every time he's asked to get in.

Who Stole the Cookie?

Josiah somehow convinced me to make cookies today. After mixing them up and shaping and dipping and baking, we all enjoyed some very delicious snickerdoodles. I saved about 2/3 of the cookies and put them in the freezer.

Josiah, with his mouth full, says "Can I have another cookie?"
Me: "Did you just take another one?"
J: "No."
Me: "What are you eating?"
J: "I found something yummy in the freezer. Can I have another one?"
Eila: "Ooh, I want one!"

Bugs

Very early this morning, as I am getting out of bed, Josiah starts talking: Mom, I just saw a spider ant.
M: Where?
J: Right here, but he went away. He'll be right back. He just went to get dressed.
M: Ok. (leaving to go to the kitchen)

A few minutes later...
J: He's dressed. There's the ant spider!
M: What?
J: Come see. Look!
M: (coming and seeing that it's a centipede, then grabbing the nearest book and smashing this bug.) Oh!
J: What's that? Oh, he pooped. That's him poop.

Later in the day, Josiah and Eila are on the porch letting ants tickle their arms.
They open the door and come running in.
Josiah, proudly announces: An ant went up my nose!
M: What!?!
J: It crawled right up here. (sticking his finger in his nose)
M: Did it come out?
J: Yeah!
M: Good. How did it feel?
J: Tickles. Him was trying to eat all the boogers.

No Nap Needed

Josiah is loving the warm weather and playing as hard as he can every second. He will occasionally take a break to rummage in the fridge for some food or ask for cookies or chips to eat, but mostly he is happy to play with his siblings or Mama. If Joe stops and rests for a bit, he might suddenly yell out "I don't need a nap." Never mind that no one has mentioned anything at all about that dreaded time of day for a little boy...

Dejected Ducker

This morning, Josiah has even more energy than normal (maybe owing to his self-help breakfast of a half-gallon of cider and a donut...) and suggested a rousing game of duck, duck, goose to pass the time. After explaining the rules to us and playing several rounds of this very fun game. Josiah suddenly sulked away sincerely complaining to Daddy whom he had just chased around the circle "You took my seat!"

Three Years Old

Josiah finally made it to the doctor yesterday for his big boy 3-year old check up. He bragged on the way back to the room after getting weighed and measured for his height that he got checked out and Eila didn't! Siah weighed 29 pounds and was 36.8 inches tall. He got a hug from the blood pressure cuff and followed the directions for the eye exam and passed. Josiah was very excited to answer all of the doctor's questions. Their conversation went something like this:
D: Josiah, how old are you?
J: Free. (holding up fingers)
D: Do you know about numbers?
J: Yeah.
D: Can you count?
J: Yeah. (still holding up fingers, but trying to manipulate them to count) 1 2 3.
D: Wow. That's great. Do you know colors too?
J: Yeah.
D: What color is your shirt?
J: Blue.
D: Is that a car on your shirt? What color is that car?
J: Red. (very proud of himself)
D: Are you a good eater?
J: No. I like to eat candy.
D: It's okay to eat candy once in a while, but it's important to eat healthy foods too.
J: I like to eat spicy chips too.
D: Oh, I like chips too, but do you like to eat apples or bananas?
J: Yeah.
D: How about broccoli?
J: Yeah.
D: Do you like carrots?
J: No! Eila likes carrots. I like celery.
D: Oh, do you eat chicken?
J: Yeah.
D: And, do you drink your milk?
J: Yes.
D: It's good to eat lots of different healthy foods and also to exercise. Do you play outside?
J: Yeah. I ride my Thomas bike.
D: Can you jump too?
J: (Jumping)
D: You know, you also need to get lots of rest to grow. Are you a good sleeper?
J: Yes.
D: Do you still take a nap?
J: Sometimes I do; sometimes I don't.

True.

Almost Three

Josiah's birthday is in just a few weeks and we've been talking about it a lot. He says he wants to have a big party with Joshie and Rachel and Claire... Sometimes he stops there and sometimes he lists every member of his extended family on both sides. Josiah remains consistent in his request for a Thomas birthday and a telephone birthday. After many, many attempts to determine exactly what this means, I think he wants two cakes, one with each theme, but it could also be that he wants two different types of candles on his cake. At any rate, it won't be a happy birthday without some cake (or rather frosting) for Joe.

For what he might want, he saw a picture of the Thomas the Tank Engine set today that he decided would be very nice. He has mentioned dinosaurs, jammies (Cars and Thomas), bubbles, and visiting Aunt Amber at the ocean for his wish list. Josiah also requested diapers a bit ago, but has since rescinded that and says that diapers are not for big boys, only Thaddeus.

High Voice

When Josiah is tired, he likes to talk in a really high voice. It isn't quite a squeak, but it is at an octave that humans don't tolerate well - at least adults. Thaddeus finds the high voice rather amusing and it is pretty much the only way Joe can get Thad to laugh, despite trying to do everything Eila does to bring out the giggles from his baby bro.
Lately, he has also been pretending to be a baby bird with a very high-pitched tweet. He loves the idea of eating worms and being in a nest and then flying out at random, when mixed with a high voice who can resist?
